VolcanoWorld Feature Story

Volcanoes are one of the most dramatic phenomena in nature, attracting millions of visitors each year to U.S. parks and fascinating millions of children in school science courses.

VolcanoWorld, the Web's premier source of volcano information, greatly enriches learning about volcanoes. It's located online at http://volcano.und.edu/

At VolcanoWorld, students can experience the wonder of volcanoes through an array of online options-high quality remote sensing images, abundant information, and interactive experiments which add depth, variety, and currency to existing volcano information sources.

VolcanoWorld brings modern, and near-real-time volcano information to school aged children and other users of the Web, and draws extensively on remote sensing images to help relay a "you are there" feeling. This unique site also adds value to these data by relating each image to geologic processes, and by encouraging users to ask questions of professional volcanologists.

VolcanoWorld has pictures, movies, stories, games, quizzes, and more-and you'll be guided through your online visit by Rocky, the site's spouting mascot!
